Sunday 30 September

5:30am - 80km

8am - 52km

8:30am - 30km

9am - 22km

10am - 13km

The 80km course follows tracks in the Brindabella Ranges National Park, Uriarra Forest and private paddock. It is considered reasonable hard due to the amount of climbing to be done. Therefore it is rocommended for fit horses only. Novice horses can do it but have to be ridden sensibly and slowly, particilary during the first 30km or the first leg which comprises two almost continous climbs of 400m each. Beside the major climbs the whole course is undulating. The footing is variableand includes dirt roads, rocky stretches and more or less soft forest tracks but no bitumen. Barefoot horses should be booted.

The 52km (30km + 22km) is on undulating terrain through Urirra Forest and private paddocks. It includes stepwise climb to an elevation of 300m above the base camp during the first let. It is challenging but achievable for a reasonably fit novice horse or evena not so fit horse, if ridden appropriately during uphill stretches. The footing mostly smooth forest roads with some short rocky stretched. Booting of barefoot horses required if they are not used to going such a distance without boots or cannot cope with rocks. The forest roads are hard underfoot when dry.

The introductory distance rides are also through undulating terrain in Uriarra Forest on mostly smooth forest roads with a few short rocky stretches. The 30km ride includes one stepwise climb to climb to 300m above the base camp, while the other two rides do not contain any major climb. Booting of barefoot horses recommended but not required in any case depending on distance and speed ridden and condition of forest roads (moist or dry).
